Gyeongju Borisa Temple

World Heritage Sites can be seen everywhere in Gyeongju, but if you pass the Gyeongbu Tollgate on the Gyeongbu Expressway that connects Busan and Seoul, you will find Gyeongju Namsan, which has been worshiped since the Shilla Dynasty, at an altitude of about 500m on the right.

In Namsan Mountain, Gyeongju, there are many stone Buddhas, stone pagodas, and tombs in every corner of Namsan Mountain where you can feel the breath of the Silla Dynasty, so it is also famous as a place to visit Buddhist relics of the Silla Dynasty.

At the foot of the mountain east of Namsan Mountain in Gyeongju, there is a 4.36-meter seated stone Buddha of Mireukgok (Treasure No. 136) in Namsan, Gyeongju, which is said to have been built around the same time as the stone Buddha of Seokguram, a World Heritage Site. The Stone Seated Buddha of Borisa Temple in Gyeongju is known as the largest and most complete Buddha statue among the remaining stone Buddha statues in Namsan Mountain.

The halo on the back of the stone Buddha statue, which is 4.36 meters high and 2.44 meters high, is engraved with the Yaksa Buddha.

It is also produced as an MBC drama and is believed to have been built during the Unified Silla Period, although the exact time of the founding of Borisa Temple, which is located in a place where Nangsan Mountain, the 27th Queen of Silla, is well visible.

Along with Gyeongju Namsan Mireukgok Stone Seated Buddha (Treasure No. 136) and Borisa Rock-Ae Seated Buddha (Gyeongsangbuk-do Tangible Cultural Property No. 193) are famous。

Borisa Temple has been closed for a long time, but in 1980, Daeungjeon Hall, Seonwon, and temples where monks live were built and transformed into what they are now. Since then, it has been established as a bhikkhuni temple conducted by a female monk and has continued to this day.
