A private educational institution in Joseon Dynasty that honored Lee Eon-jeok, a teacher of Dongbang Oh-hyun, who was born in Yangdong Folk Village, a World Heritage site, and spread his study abroad
Hello, Yangdong Folk Village, a World Heritage site about 20 kilometers north of Gyeongju City, is famous for the birth of Yi Eon-jeok (1491-1553) among five Confucian scholars who greatly influenced Neo-Confucianism during the Joseon Dynasty.
Oksanseowon Confucian Academy, about 11km west of Yangdong Folk Village, was founded in 1572 by Yeongnam Sarim in honor of the teacher’s learning, but two years later, it became a private Confucian academy that received books, land, and labor from the state.
The Joseon Confucian Academy, which served as an educational institution for cultivating Confucian scholars, has a space for learning in the front and a shrine in the back, and the main gate, pavilion, auditorium, and shrine are built in a straight line.

When you step into Oksanseowon, which is located deep in the mountains, you will see a two-story pavilion right in front of you. If you go out under it, there is an auditorium with the signboard of Oksanseowon written by Kim Jeong-hee (1786-1856), a calligrapher in the late Joseon Dynasty, hanging in front of the auditorium. Inside, there is a signboard written by Lee San-hae (1538-1609), a famous merchant of the Joseon Dynasty at the time of its foundation.
