UN Memorial Cemetery

UN Memorial Cemetery commemorating the spirits of 21 countries around the world who died for freedom and world peace during the Korean War between 1950 and 1953

The United Nations Memorial Park, designated as Registered Cultural Property No. 359 on October 24, 2007, is located right next to the Busan Museum. It is a U.N. military cemetery built in 1951 by the U.N. Command to bury the remains of U.N. troops from 21 countries around the world who were dispatched to Korea during the Korean War. Currently, only 11 countries are managed.

At that time, the remains scattered around Kaesong, Incheon, and Daejeon were moved to Busan and buried in the current U.N. military cemetery, where 2,300 soldiers from 11 countries are currently asleep.There are memorial halls, exhibition rooms, and annexes built by the United Nations in 1964, and the cemetery covers an area of about 45,000 square meters and is managed by the United Nations.

The flag flying high (symbolic area) cherishes the sacrifices of 21 UN forces (16 UN combat support forces, 5 medical support forces, and the Korean military) and symbolizes the spirit of the deceased soldiers. Facilities such as memorial halls and memorial halls were built by the United Nations in 1964 and 1968, and war heroes can no longer be seen, but the noble spirit of soldiers who generously threw their lives for world peace and freedom is forever honored.

Cemetery area

Currently, most of the remains in the United States, Belgium, Thailand, India, and Colombia have been repatriated to their own countries, with 2,300 remains in 11 countries, including Australia, Canada, and the Netherlands.

Remembrance Hall

The memorial hall, which can be seen as soon as you enter the main gate of the UN Memorial Park, is showing videos related to the Korean War and the UN Memorial Park in Japanese, Korean, or English for 13 minutes.

Commemoration Hall

The memorial hall, located right next to the memorial hall, displays U.N. flags during the war and photos of U.N. troops at the time.

UN Participation Monument

The UN Participation Monument, which is 12.05m high and has 15 pillars indicating 16 participating countries, is carved with bronze statues of soldiers with characteristics of each country in the middle of the pillar, and at the end of the pillar, it honors 21 countries participating in world peace.
