Sudeoksa Temple

Hello, Daeungjeon Hall of Sudeoksa Temple in Yecheon has been designated as National Treasure No. 49, the highest ancient building in Korea, following Bongnakjeon Hall of Bongjeongsa Temple in Andong City (National Treasure No. 15) and Muryangsu Hall of Buseoksa Temple in Yeongju City (National Treasure No. 18).

Sudeoksa Temple Daeungjeon

Located about an hour’s drive northwest of Daejeon, Yecheon Sudeoksa Temple is known to have been founded during the Baekje period, as Baekje tiles have been excavated from the grounds. When the temple was being dismantled and repaired from 1937 to 1940, an inscription was found stating that it was built in 1308 (34th year of King Chungryeol of Goryeo), and the current Garambae-ri is believed to have been built after 1308. Located on the slopes of Deokjongsan Mountain, also known as Geumgangsan Mountain in the west, Sudeoksa Temple’s Daewoongjeon Hall (National Treasure No. 49) is considered one of the oldest wooden buildings in Korea.
